Points on the ear correspond directly to organs of the body. When needled, these points produce calming, centering effects that help to support, nourish, build and restore the natural strengths of each organ. These points on the ear, and the ear itself is considered to be a micro-system of the entire body. There is an orderly anatomical arrangement of the points based on an inverted fetus or homunculus (little man). These points serve to assist in balancing the body’s energy and its inherent healing processes.
Auricular Acupuncture was originally developed in the early 1970s at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx to assist with addiction and withdrawl symptoms. This protocol was based on Chinese medicine theory of supporting the organs so that they can function most-optimally in the detoxification process and to help create calm in the face of an emotionally stressful journey.
Auricular acupuncture continues to be used extensively in:
- Treatment of addiction
- Treatments in the military and on the battlefield
- Sleep difficulties
- PTSD symptoms
- Pain relief
- Other areas of concern
Results of feeling more calm, centered, focused can occur the initial treatment and tend to become more enhanced as you continue to with the procedure. Auricular Acupuncture can also be performed in community or group settings.
